What Does a Dehumidifier Cost?

This article is only relevant in Sweden and is a direct translation. A dehumidifier can be an important component in protecting your house, crawl space or attic from moisture-related problems. If humidity levels become too high and are not addressed, they can eventually lead to microbial fouling and costly renovations. A dehumidifier can also be a handy tool to quickly lower the humidity level in bathrooms or to dry out the garage after driving in a snowy car.

But what does a dehumidifier actually cost? The answer depends on which type of dehumidifier you need, the volume of the space and the installation requirements.

Here we go through the different types of dehumidifiers, show price examples and what is usually included in an installation.

⚠️ Please note that all prices below are estimates including VAT - the final price always depends on the product in question and the conditions of the space to be dehumidified.

What does a condensation dehumidifier cost?

Condensation dehumidifiers, also known as refrigeration dehumidifiers, are often cost-effective solutions aimed primarily at consumers and home users. They are portable and work best in heated environments such as laundries, basements, bathrooms, pool houses, swimming pools and other warmer spaces. If the temperature is above 15 degrees centigrade, a condensation dehumidifier is usually the best choice.

For smaller spaces, a simpler model may suffice, while larger spaces require more capacity.

Condensation dehumidifiers Approximate price
Simpler model Approximately SEK 2 500-6 000
Larger model Approximately SEK 6 000-10 000

What is the cost of a desiccant dehumidifier?

Desiccant dehumidifiers are a more advanced solution that is permanently installed. They are particularly effective in colder environments such as crawl spaces, cold attics and unheated garages. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, a desiccant dehumidifier is the best option.

In this case, it is wise to invest in a proven and quality-developed model, especially if it is a risk structure where long-term security is crucial.

The price depends to a large extent on capacity, functions and any optional extras. For simpler needs, such as in a boat, motorhome or a storage room, a desiccant dehumidifier usually costs SEK 4 000-13 000. For larger spaces, the investment is usually SEK 13 000-25 000.

Below you can see price examples of some desiccant dehumidifiers that Acetec AB offers. They are developed, manufactured and quality assured in Älvsbyn and have a 3-year warranty.

There are also industrial models for applications such as warehouses, pharmaceuticals, defence, protected installations and production facilities, where dehumidification can be business-critical.

Desiccant dehumidifiers Approximate price
Simpler model Approximately SEK 4 000-13 000
More advanced model (e.g. for crawl spaces) Approximately SEK 13 000-25 000
Industrial (professional dehumidifier) Approximately SEK 32 000-200 000

What is the cost of a crawl space dehumidifier?

Crawl space dehumidifiers are a common solution in Swedish homes. A suitable model normally costs in the range of SEK 13 000-25 000 and often come with a control panel so you can monitor and control dehumidification remotely.

As the crawl space is a risky structure, it is worth choosing a quality dehumidifier that will last for many years to come - a safe investment in the house. The difference between different models is often noticeable in product quality, where they are manufactured, support and long-term reliability.

How much does an attic dehumidifier cost?

For attics, the same principle applies: choose a proven model with sufficient capacity to handle the moisture load that has an associated external display with smart control and monitoring capabilities. For example, our RCF dehumidifiers follow a mould index and take into account both temperature and humidity. This allows for higher humidity levels during certain periods, leading to energy savings.

An attic dehumidifier for a detached house costs about the same as a crawl space dehumidifier, around SEK 13 000-25 000.

What is the cost of dehumidifier installation?

The cost of installation of dehumidifiers depends on the condition of the space, accessibility and the need for additional measures. Generally speaking, you can expect around SEK 14 000-17 000but this can of course vary. It is always a good idea to obtain information from several installers.

Elements that can be included in a tender for installation in crawl space:

  • Review and assessment of the conditions of the space
  • Sealing of valves
  • Placement of plastic on the ground
  • Sealing of existing gaps
  • Installation of crawl space dehumidifiers
  • Installation of the control unit inside the property
  • Post-control

Depending on the condition of the crawl space, other steps may also be needed, such as decontamination or replacement of existing materials. These measures will affect the price and should be included in the quote you receive from the installer.

If you can do some parts yourself, such as laying out plastic or sealing valves, this will obviously reduce the cost.

ℹ️ Remember that you can use The ROT deduction for the installation of dehumidifiers. At present, the following apply 50% until the end of the year on the cost of labour if you hire help.

We work with many carefully selected installers around the country. Via the our retailer page you can easily get in touch with an authorised partner near you who can carry out the installation. This way you get a complete solution - with both quality-assured products from Acetec AB and professional installation that qualifies for ROT deductions.

Energy consumption

Energy consumption is an important part of the cost. It varies depending on the model of the dehumidifier, the environment, the time of year and the sizing, making it difficult to give an exact figure. By checking the fan power and the dehumidification power, you can make your own calculations - but it all depends on how often the dehumidifier needs to work.

Keep in mind that a properly sized model does not have to work all the time, which both extends its lifetime and reduces electricity consumption. Many proven models also follow a mould index to optimise energy use.

It rarely pays to buy a cheaper model with too low a capacity, as it risks running constantly to solve moisture problems. A dehumidifier can't really be too big - a more powerful model will simply run less frequently but more efficiently.

To maintain low energy consumption, it is important to change the filter at least twice a year. This ensures optimal airflow and that the dehumidifier is working properly.
